Associate Professor Dr. Peter Pavel Klasinc (born 1946), an archival councilor, completed his elementary and secondary education in Maribor and continued his studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, where he earned the titles of Professor of History and Professor of Art History. In 1987, he obtained his master's degree and later, in 1992, earned a PhD at the University of Zagreb with a thesis on "The Material Protection of Classical and New Information Carriers in Archives," thus acquiring the title of Doctor of Information Sciences in the field of Social Sciences.

Since 1968, he has been employed at the Historical Archives in Ptuj, where he served as director from 1972 to 1976. In 1976, he joined the Regional Archives Maribor, taking charge of the Department for Economic Archives. In 1982, he became the director of the Maribor archives, a position he held until 1994. During this time, he initiated and organized conferences on professional and technical issues in archives and oversaw the publication of the proceedings "Archives – Contemporary Archives," which were published until 2003. In these years, he also began researching local history and later archival science, archival studies, and archival theory and practice. He has continuously published scholarly articles in journals such as "Archives" (published by the Archival Association of Slovenia), "Contemporary Archives" (published by the Regional Archives Maribor), "Technical and Content Problems of Classical and Electronic Archiving" (published by the Regional Archives Maribor), and "Atlanti" and "Atlanti+" (published by the International Institute of Archival Science).

In 1984, he established the Center for Professional and Technical Issues in Archives, which later evolved into the International Institute of Archival Science, headquartered in the Regional Archives Maribor and later at the University of Maribor. Since 2006, the institute has also had a branch in the State Archives in Trieste. Professor Peter Pavel Klasinc has consistently served as the institute's director and the chief and responsible editor of its publications, "Atlanti" and "Atlanti+."

Peter Pavel Klasinc is also an active member of the Archival Association of Slovenia – he served as the president of the association from 1979 to 1983 and was simultaneously the president of the Federation of Archival Workers of Yugoslavia for one year. During this period, he collaborated with other representatives of Yugoslav archives on the project "Archival Funds and Collections in SFRY" and was also the editor of the Slovenian part of this edition. In 2016, the Archival Association of Slovenia awarded him the Aškerčeva Award, the highest professional recognition in the Republic of Slovenia, awarded for achievements in archival work, specifically for his lifetime contribution to Slovenian archival science, particularly in public outreach of archival heritage, organization of the archival studies program, and achievements in the archival field internationally.

Professor Peter Pavel Klasinc is the author of more than five hundred scientific, research, study, and professional works. He has pursued further education in Germany, Austria, Italy, Norway, and Russia, and actively collaborated with many archivists from around the world. He currently heads the archival studies programs at all three Bologna levels and is a member of professional committees and the senate of AMEU-ECM.
